Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Who is eligible for this opportunity?

Early career visual artists, performance artists, photographers, illustrators, designers, poets, and writers of colour. Please note that we are only looking for creatives who are from black, asian or minority ethic backgrounds.

  • When is the deadline?

The deadline for submissions is 1 May 2018, midnight.

  • How many works can I submit?

You can submit as many as work as you wish. We would like to see as many images as possible to get a better sense of your practice and get to know your interests. Performance artists, please send us video documentations or Vimeo/Youtube links as well as images. Each written work should be no more than 3000 words.

  • Can I submit works in more than one category?

Of course! We fully acknowledge that contemporary artists often operate across disciplines. For example, you can send us your poetry alongside your photographic works.

  • How much does it cost to apply?

The submissions are free and you are not required to pay any contribution fee if you are selected.

  • Are there payments to artists?

Artist fees are contingent on our current funding application. We are a small team with a virtually non-existing funding source but we put our heart into this project. In return of your contribution we will support and promote your work through all our channels. Additionally, all artists featured will receive a free copy of the issue they contribute towards.

  • When will I be notified of the result of my submission?

We will try our best to contact all applicants within two weeks of the application deadline. Thanks for your patience.

  • Do you provide other opportunities for selected artists?

We are also working on an exhibition which will include works by a few selected artists plus other public events in conjunction with the launch of the third issue. The exhibition will either take place in the U.K in Autumn 2018, venue & exact dates tbc. If you are selected, you will be invited to take part - we are currently working on funding for this exhibition so we can hopefully support you for costs of transportation.

  • Are there any other deadlines during the submission process?

Selected applicants will be asked to submit high-res images and additional information for the publication. You will be notified of the deadline in due time.

  • What can I submit?

We are open to a wide range of creative practices from visual arts to illustration, from moving image to performance. For text-based works, we are especially keen on receiving poems, critical essays, interviews, short fiction, and flash fiction.
